Welcome to Humanities II !

I am very excited you have chosen to take Humanities II. We will spend this quarter looking more closely at the artists perspective of his or her work and look for them to tell us and show us how and why they create.

I encourage you once again to participate in activities outside the classroom that will enhance your Humanities experience. Please see my webpage for specific details and requirements.
Outside hours are REQUIRED in order to earn credit for this class.

Enjoy!

  1. For my first set of hours I went to the Bloomington Jefferson High School for a dance competition. Not only was I watching the dance competition, I was also competing in the competition too. As I was in the audience, it was nice to see a variety of dance instead of just one style of dance. The studio's we competed against were pretty high on difficulty. But when people were dancing everyone was very supportive of one another and it was really fun to finally be in that environment once again for my last time.

The dance competition relates to humanities in many ways. One major way would obviously be the dancing itself. Dance describes how we feel through movement. Dancing allows humans to express ourselves using our bodies in different ways. If we are happy, we would tap. If we feel sassy, we would turn to a jazz routine. If we feel sad or upset, contemporary or lyrical would be a great style. And if we are feeling classy, ballet would be the perfect choice. Dance lets us get our feelings out in a different form than we are use to.

Another way dance relates to humanities is that it is helping us discover who we are. It helps us identify ourselves and helps us figure out what kind of people we are. I've been dancing for a long time. Dance has made me discover that I am not only passionate, but I am also a free spirit. I tend to do my own thing, and go my own way. If our dance instructors tell us to improv or improvise, I will let myself go and not care what anyone thinks. That's what humanities is, it's what ever helps us discover who we are. Dance has done that for me.

  2. I saw MGK a few weeks ago. We all met up at my work because I went with my co-workers. Then we picked up some girls, and we left to go to The Myth. I have never been to the Myth, or even been to a Rap concert, so I'm glad I got to experience that. When we got their, one of the girls had been drinking, so she was too drunk to get into the Venue, and my manager had to take her home. So it was just me and my buddy Mo, I didn't know about the other rappers, like Kid Ink, but Machine Gun Kelly was amazingm first he brought a little kid up to the stage to headbang, that was cool. The he brought a ho on stage and it was pretty cool. Then he made shaddow puppets have sex, and he stage dived, and I almost touched him, it was overal a great concert!

The first humanities approach I saw was to help us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. I never liked rap before this. But earlyer I have listened to rap and other genres, and Ive gotten to like rap more and more, and what better way to appriciate rap, then going to a rap concert. and one of my favorite rappers was in town, and my manager invited me, so it was perfect! I enjoyed this rap concert, and I will continue to listen to, and enjoy rap. I'm actually going to sound set this year with the same people, and more! So I'm exited!

The other humanities approach I saw was that he showed me that theirs options and alternatives in live. I love music just as much as he does, so why cant I go ouot and play shows, and do awesome stuff on stage! I've alsoways loved music, and I want to study it, and hopefulyl I will make it one day! I don't need to be a boreing buisness man, I can be whatever I want, and no one can tell me what I can, and cant do, not my parents, not my friends, no body! Again I had a really fun time at the Myth watching MGK, I hope to go, and see more concert in the future!

  3. For my first set of hours, I went to see the play Harvey at the high school on Friday, April 19th. There was a group of about ten of us that went and I was really excited to see the play and support some friends. This play was about a middle aged man who thinks that his best friend is a six foot tall white rabbit that is invisible to everyone but himself. The play was great, really funny and I’m super happy that I went to watch it. I loved the story line and I thought that the cast did an amazing job! After the play we went up and talked to the cast and then went out to Perkins after.

I think that one purpose of humanities the play expresses is a person’s attitude or value on such things as what is beauty, love, justice, peace, and truth. I think that this purpose is reflected through the play due to the writer of Harvey and the actors themselves. The writer of Harvey most likely expressed their own values and thoughts within their work. The storyline of the play illustrates what the writer thought on certain topics such as love. I think the theme of love is displayed throughout this show because the brother and sister have a genuine caring for each other. The actors also put their own twist on who they think the character is supposed to be which expresses their attitudes on the themes.

Another purpose of humanities that I believe is shown is how the play brought emotion and expression to the world. This play was a funny one which brought a ton of emotion to the crowd. Harvey brought multiple different emotions to the audience. Not only was it funny, but it also had its sad moments along with happy ones. I think it expressed the importance of family and sticking together, as well as having good friends by your side.

  4. Humanities – Outside Hours Activities Worksheet
    Name __Jasmine Larson_____________________________________________________ Hour ____2________
Name of Activity _____Facedown Fest________________________________________ Time Involved _3 hours____
Location ___Chino, California ________________________________________________ Date __4/13/13_________

The 3 days I was gone a couple of weeks ago I went to California. I went with five of my friends and we went to this concert called “Facedown Fest”. Facedown Fest is a bunch of Christian bands that all come together and put on a concert in this church in Chino. The music was not really the type of music I listen to but it was quite an experience. It was a lot of metal/ screaming bands. During the concert it was crazy! People were “moshing” in a circle the whole concert. It was actually scary at times. My friend Zoe got kicked in the eye at one point and got a black eye and somebody stage dived on top of me and I got a bloody nose. It was the worst bloody nose I’ve ever had. I was for sure it was broken! But the paramedics fixed it and it ended up not being broken! The concert was definitely something different for me and not like any other concert I’ve ever been to. It was a lot of fun though and I would totally go back next year!
I thought going to this concert was a really great experience. One way it relates to humanities is it shows us other options and alternatives in the world. The concert was a Christian concert. I would have never of guessed this if the concert wouldn’t have been at a church! It shows that even the people we think to be delinquents’ can still have their own way of believing in God and worshiping God. Another thing is it helps us live our lives to the fullest. Music in general just makes life that much better. It gives us an opportunity to express ourselves and to spend time with our friends. I’m so glad I got to go all the way to California to see this. It gave me memories I will remember for the rest of my life.

  5. For my Humanities project I went to Mystic Lake with my mom and we went to see The Price Is Right game show!!! We enterted our names in to the drawing to try and win money or get onto the game! My mom told me that this show has been around for many years and she would watch it as a kid. I thought this was so cool when I heard about it so I watched it and it really was a cool show! Anyone could get called to go down there and try to win prizes or money. Unfortunately my mom or I did not get called down to play the games but people right next to us did so it was cool to see their faces when their names got called. Some people got embrrassed to go up but it was funny to watch.
This game show relates to Humanitiess because it talks about people getting called up and winning prizes! This game is set up in order and is very organized and well thought out. What happens is five people aare called down to the stage and they ccompette against ech other to try and win the queston so they can go up on stage and play to win either money or games. They have different games set up to play each round and some are really hard and some are just spinning a wheel. Then if they win they will win the prize after the show! After people are done with games the anouncer can call random names to win one hundred dollars!
It's a vrey cool game and it would have been cool to get to go on stage and compette but I think I would have been nervous though if i was called on the stage. But in all I had a great time on the game show in the audience and being apart of the cheering!

  6. For my first humanities hours I went to see the Celebrate Concert on May 4, 2013. The Celebrate Concert is the one of the last concerts that the choir does. It is all of the choirs plus final rehearsal and some one and two acts. The theme for this year was OH! The Places You'll Go! Their performances were really good. I didn't know that we had so much talent in this school. I am glad that they can express themselves through the music.

I think that expressing yourself in any concert; really express who you are and what your talent is. In humanities it is these qualities that you need to show yourself to the world and to come out of your shell and tell us a new perspective. So going to concerts like the Celebrate concert you can show what you are capable of. It can also help other people to find meaning and enjoyment in our world.

Another way how this concert expresses humanities is that it brings out emotion and expression of emotion to our world. One example of this would be is when Caitlin Wright gave express throughout the song even though it was supposed to be a song. The song also made the whole crowd laugh when she stop to talk about the pet snake with the girl. Another example of this would be when the Concert Choir sang Africa and they did the rain and the thunder and the rest of the song had a lot of motion and it moved so good that it was my favorite song of the whole night.

  7. For my first set of hours I watched the movie Forrest Gump because it is one of my favorite movies and it is well known to many people. Tom Hanks plays the main character as Forrest Gump throughout the movie of him waiting at the bus stop talking to all these strangers about his story that begins with leg braces to where he is waiting at the bus stop to go see jenny.

The movie relates to humanities by the different kinds of music that is played throughout it in all the different scenes like the song Fortunate son when forest is in Vietnam fighting. Also that it displays the kind of music that they listened to back then compared to what we are use to now is very different.

Another way the movie relates to humanities is the person that directed is Robert Zemckis who has directed many other great movies like Flight, A Christmas Carol, and The Polar Express. We watched a movie on Steven Spielberg on how he created and directed all these other great movies and theses too people have done a great job with all the other directors that create the good and most popular movies.

  8. For my humanities hours I went to the Celebrate concert Oh! The Place You'll Go! on May 4, 2013. Before going to the concert, I was a little skeptical thinking it was just a high school choir concert, but I was very impressed. I didn't realize how much talent we had at the high school. I absolutely loved the duets between Sam Dubois and Cody Kohout and Leah Erickson and Eric Nagarajan. I was really surprised by some of the people who participated. One of my favorite songs they did was Africa. I loved when Thomas Richey beat boxed for the song and how they used their mouths and hands to make it sound like a thunderstorm. That really blew me away! Caitlin Wright's performance of Summer in Ohio was also very entertaining especially since she's so good at acting and it showed through in her performance.

One way in which this concert expressed humanities is by bringing out emotion and expression of emotion to our world. I was really surprised by some of the people who were in choir and after seeing this concert I understand why. Singing allows people to express themselves through song. For example, when Caitlin Wright sang her facial expressions and tone of voice made the song more enjoyable and I laughed quite a few times and not just because the lyrics were entertaining but because of how she presented them.

Another way in which this concert expressed humanities is to help us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. While watching the concert I could see in so many performers faces how much fun they were having performing these songs. After the concert I got the chance to talk to some of the performers and they all gushed about the concert and how much they enjoy choir as a whole. It really gave me a new perspective on the arts at our school and helped me to understand why people to sing.

The North Dakota Heritage Center is a place that represent the history of North Dakota. It is currently under an expansion that will include some of the geological finds. It will include the bones of a dinosaur and a mammoth. It will also include a gallery of the early peoples living in North Dakota. The saw many statues of various Indian tribes including Sakajawea who helped Lewis and Clark. We learned about an immigrant, Nancy Hendrickson. Her mother died in 1926 and she provided for her family by training animals to pose for pictures. Her pictures sold in newspapers and postcards and brought her national prizes. I loved it because i thought it was very interesting and personal learning about the heritage of specific people in ND.

This experience provided us a perspective to view the world. We learned how one person used a creative way to help her family survive a difficult time. It also brought expression of emotion to our world. Nancy did that through her animal photography. I had a chance to learn more about Nancy through the Museum store worker. She showed some actual pictures that Nancy had photographed. She gave us some to keep. :)

  10. For my first set of hours I attended the Celebrate Concert at the high school on Saturday, May 4th. This concert was full of many different talents and it was very fun to attend and watch. It was fun to see a lot of familiar faces and discover that many of my peers were so amazingly talented. The choirs that performed were the Choralairs, Concert Choir, Final Rehearsal, Meistersingers, Treble Choir, Men's Choir, and Women's Chorale. There were also many duets and solos throughout the concert which made the atmosphere different from the other group performances. I loved the concert and it brought back memories from when I was in freshman choir.

One purpose of humanities I discovered at the concert was that the concert helped us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. There was a very deep and powerful meaning in some of the songs that were performed on Saturday. Some of these songs include Travelin' Soldier, Moonlight in Vermont, and Walking in Memphis. Songs that provided me with pure enjoyment included This Land is Your Land, Route 66, California Girls, I've Been Everywhere, and Hawaii Five-O.

A second purpose of humanities I noticed was that almost all of the songs that were song provided the viewers with a new perspective of the words. The lyrics and the movements of the performers portrayed the meaning of the song which gave us a new and unique way on how we perceive the world. I thought that this was pretty cool, along with the whole concert. The concert was also very entertaining and I thought that the choirs did a great job of keeping the audience guessing on what was to come next. I also loved how they mixed in humor in many of their songs. Great concert!

During my spring break, I watched a movie called, “The Godfather.” I watched all three parts of the movie, which was a twelve-hour movie. I really liked the movie because there are so many actions and the story of an Italian family and how they became a mafia family.
“The Godfather,” helps us find the meaning in life because the main character in the movie, Michel, didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. For sure, he didn’t want to take after his father. When his father almost died, Michel didn’t have a choice but to take over his father’s business, and it shows us that he has meaning to life like not becoming like his father.
Another purpose of the movie was to express a person’s attitude or value on such things as what is love, justice, peace, truth, etc. In this movie the Godfather (Michel) didn’t trust anyone, even his brothers and sisters, because they all betrayed him at some point. That affected him a lot. He had a hard relationship with his son. His son didn’t want to take over the business after him. Instead he wanted to become a singer and it led to fights and disappointments.
This movie was the best movie I have watched this year. It touched my heart and it was worth the time to watch it.

  12. For my first set of hours I went to the Celebrate Concert at the high school on Saturday at 5. The theme to the concert was Oh! The Places You'll Go! Which encompasses the countless songs about various locations throughout the world such as, I've Been Everywhere, Seven Wonders, and Africa. My favorite song by far was New York State of Mind. I was blown away by how talented of a singer Kate Rupp was and also how talented Eric was on the saxophone. This concert really opened up my eyes to the true talent our school is filled that I was completely unaware of.

For the first purpose of humanities I chose for this was, showing us options and alternatives. for some people they are very into sports whether it is through school our somewhere outside of school. Some kids are not really into sports but really love singing and acting. This concert portrays this as a fun and popular option for students who might not really be into sports but want something extracurricular to do.

The second purpose of humanities I chose was, finding meaning and enjoyment in our world. All of the students in this whole concert whether its the technicians, singers, dancers, and even those who help put up the stage find true enjoyment doing this. Something as simple as singing for people or even in class brings them true happiness and enjoyment in life. Also it provides enjoyment to the spectators such as myself when the get to watch these great performances come together on the big stage. Overall great experience!

  13. For my first three outside hours I went to a friend, Giovanna's, piano recital on Sunday May 5th. This was a first for me because I had never been to a piano recital before. Her and both of her sisters played in the recital along with a few other people that I know. I am pretty sure that there were around 15 or 16 different performances in all. Giovanna played a duet with her youngest sister and one piece on her own, both we amazing! Her solo piece was played smooth and perfect, and I gave a big applause afterwards.
One purpose of humanities that is fulfilled by the piano recital is "brings emotion and expression of emotion to our world." Music is one of the oldest ways that people use to express emotions, and expressing emotion can easily be done through playing an instrument like the piano. The performers showed emotion not only by the sounds that their fingers made, but especially by how they move their fingers and the rest of their body while playing.
The second purpose would be "provide us an approach to living in the modern world." There are many things that blind people of truth an reality in today's world. Music, such as through the piano, is a way that people are able to break through that modern day firewall in society. And with world being the way it is there are people with lots of everyday struggles, music is a great way to change moods no matter what the circumstances may be. Listening to music is a total escape from the struggles of everyday life in today's world.

  14. For my outside hours I went to the Celebrate concert held this past Saturday. It centered around songs of travel or include travel in a way. The content gave the concert the name "Oh! The Places You'll Go!". After being in choir in 10th grade and watching the improvements some people have made and how the new comers have impacted the group blew me away. I enjoyed Route 66 and Jackson, both were done very well and were songs I knew very well.
One purpose I saw throughout the concert was people expressing their attitudes or value on things. this is shown by how passionately the people sing and the emotion that they give to you wile singing their songs. Some people have such a passion for music and singing that it has really paid of for them.
Another purpose is showing us options and alternatives. Sometimes you might be down but music cheers most of us up but singing to ourselves doesn't come to mind often. Some songs might not need a strong meaning or a full lyric set, but either way, music is a great option to help understand humanities and see the greatness in others.

  16. For my hours I was in the celebrate concert it was so much fun doing this concert. This concert meant alot to me because it was my last one being that i am a senior. This year the theme "Oh! the places you go". We got so into it this year with the song choices. you really see how many songs have places in them. My favoite was KoKomo that the concert choir did it was so good and I love the Beach Boys so I was so excited that they were doing that song. Also Route 66 that my choir womens Chorale did we put a twist on it and what we decided to do with that song was so unexpected and it was so much fun. we all got into it and just had fun. one purpise that really stands out is emotion and expression in the world. In the concert expecially the solos really bring emotion and expression when they sing. when you sing you wanna set the mood and the songs that they sing they put it into everyday life and if this were to really happen how would you act and thats why it looks so good. alos they have fun with it and take it seriousaly.

Another Purpose that really stands out is meaning of enjoyment on the world. This one really stands out because everyone of those singers love being up there and enjoy every inuet of it. Everyone has something the enjoy weather it be a sport or a hobby.the singers in that concert enjoy everyminuet of it and show that they wanna be there and have fun while doing it. thats why we have a concert for people so they can see what we really love doing and enjoy

  17. For my outside hours I went to the Celebrate concert with a friend. Gavin and I went to the concert at 5 on Saturday. The Celebrate concert is our school choir playing various songs from around the world, from all different generations. The concert lasted 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission, and was very good. It consisted of solos, duets, and full choir pieces. One of my favorite performances was the song Jackson, By Cody and Sam. It was very powerful, it was two people who I’ve never seen sing and completely shocked me with great vocals and a powerful performance. Over all the concert was very good and I was never put to boredom. It was entertaining, surprising, and kept me impressed. Though it was a little lengthy, the 15 minute intermission was perfect. I was shocked at how many people attended and how applauding people were. One of the best parts of the concert was knowing the majority of the songs, no one wants to listen to a bunch of music they have never heard, so that was convenient.
One of the purposes of humanities this serves is “help us find meaning and enjoyment in our world”, and this was achieved because of all the various songs that brought people together. Everybody at the concert knew the songs and sang along and enjoyed songs from all across the world. Another purpose of humanities this served was “help us live our life to the fullest”, and this was achieved by people sitting down and all enjoying this great concert. Music is a great way to bring people together and that is exactly what this concert did. After every song there was a mass of applauding and I even saw a few people crying at how beautiful the music was.

  18. I went to go see the Celebrate concert which focused on songs around the world. The title they had was perfect for it because it was called Oh! the places You'll Go!. I went mostly to see my friend Ethan perform and dance with 2 others. It was really cool to see him do that. Also I never realized all the talent that we have at our school. It is amazing how humble some of these kids are that have such talent. I loved the songs Route 66 and New York State of Mind the most. I don't know why but I think those are my favorites of the concert.

The 2 parts of humanities I chose are emotions and expression of emotions in our world. the way the people sung the songs really made me feel that they were expressing their emotions through the song. I thought that was really cool.
The 2nd one is chose is options and alternatives. I don't believe that I would normally go to this but I felt like I should. Most people go to the football and other sport games. But I think that after this, more kids in the future will go to these. It was a really cool experience.

  19. For my outside hours I watched Across the Universe. This movie to me was very different and put a new spin on musicals as I know it. I have always loved the Beatles and they really did a nice job portraying the essence and personality that the Beatles were so famously known for. This movie follows the lives of young teenagers and their struggles they face in there lives, while incorporating the Revolutionary music of the Beatles. The movie is set in the times of the Vietnam war, the hardships that the citizens of the United States faced are carried out though the emotional scenes in the movie. it also incorporates a classic love story with Lucy and Jude.
I also went to Body Worlds at the science Museum. This was a very interesting experience for me because I plan on going into the medical field. I found it a little creepy that these were actual people but all in all it was a great learning experience. I saw so many new things I never knew about my body. This relates to humanities by teaching me and pushing me outside my comfort zone by learning more about myself and the things I love to do.
This just reassured me that I am more determined then ever to follow my dreams.

For my First three outside hours I watched the academy award winning film “Jingo Unchained”. The movie is about a southern slave named Django played by the Jamie Foxx who is recruited in to the bounty hunting business by a German “Dentist” named Dr. Schultz. After making an agreement that Django would work for Dr. Schultz for a winter in return that after the winter was over the two men would go in search of Django’s lost wife. After finding out that his wife had been taken to a Mississippi plantation called “Candy Land” they set course for the area. The rest of the movie deals with making s plan to get his wife out of “Candy Land” safely while dealing with the heavy racism and plantation owner Mr. Candy played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

One way this movie relates to humanities is how it provides us with a perspective to view the world. Though racism has declined significantly since the time period this movie was set in it still made me think about the gruesomeness and shame this put on our country. I can’t even imagine the struggles some of the slaves must have faced while working in the Americas and this is something that was shown in this film. Even though this movie was very fictional some points in the movie I’m sure weren’t too far from the truth and this was made evident throughout the film.

Many of the points mentioned in the paragraph above also tie in to the approach to humanities that we must be aware of our actions and the consequences. Django proved this in the movie many times by not letting such hateful acts take place towards him. Some of the characters’ in the film such as some of the workers at the plantation were also taught this and had to pay the price of death after committing such horrible acts.

  21. For my outside hours I went to the traveling version of price is right at the Mystic Lake Casino. It was for my 18 birthday, my sister got me tickets to go with her me and her fiance Alex. How it worked was that 4 people got called up at a time and got a chance to go up and win big. Alex was one of the contestants and each contestant no matter what won 100 dollars and a t-shirt just for getting called up. After that round everyone sits down. So there is more chance of people getting called up. Well we got lucky and he was a wheel spinner and only 3 contestants got called up. So he spun the first spin and spun a 90 . The second spinner spun a 80 so Alex was winning. The last girl spun a knuckle biting 100 to win over Alex! We were all mad but happy at the same time because it was awesome to see him go out there and give the wheel a spin.
The first humanities relation i saw was to help us find meaning and enjoyment in life. It was all about the having fun experiences more than anything. I mean ya if you get called up that would be awesome but just being in that setting and watching all of this happening was just amazing. I rarely watch the Price is Right! but being there was a blast. There was this one guy who was a total butt-head and had no fun with it at all he got called up and he brought the whole audience down with this depressing mood he brought to the stage. The first words he said we "Oh wow i thought this thing was rigged. The audience didn't like that so we didn't really help him win.
Another approach to humanities is how it bring your true self out to have fun! Life is full of fun things and only you can make yourself happy no one else so be yourself and i highly recommend going to this event its just a fun crazy experiences that will get your blood moving and excited. I had a great time and birthday. So just be yourself and live on!

  22. For one of my outside hour activities I went to the Prior Lake band concert on May 6, 2013. The reason why I went to the concert is because I was in one of the three bands that performed. I play the tuba for the blue fourth hour Varsity Band. I really enjoyed playing and listening to the other two bands that performed. This is the last band concert of the 8 years that I have been involved with the Prior Lake band.
One purpose of humanities that was expressed during the band performance is it helped us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. Everyone that went to the concert came to enjoy the different songs that the three bands performed. Music is an important topic of humanities. Music is a way to express feelings and emotions to people. I thought that all of the songs that the three ensembles performed were well-put together songs that the audience could find meaning and enjoyment from.
Another purpose of humanities that could be seen in the concert was that it brought emotion and expression of emotion to our world. Music is a great way to express emotion and I thought all of the songs that were performed at the band concert did a good job at this.

Over spring break I saw a show in Vegas, I don't think it was called a specific thing but bands and singers all performed in "The D" casino. There were multiple performers that all showed there love and personality through the art of music and performance. The first singer sang for about 45 minutes with such passion and dedication to something that she clearly was passionate about and wanted to go somewhere with her singing career. It was a really cool experience to see multiple performancing all over Vegas throughout my stay but this one really stood out to me with her love of music. She also danced and talked to the crowd about her love for music and singing and she really got involved with the crowd which made the whole concert really fun and exciting. There were also some bands that played as well, showing there love for music in other ways. They've been performing for quite some time now traveling and trying to make it big, but they sort of gave up when they reached Nevada because they loved the atmosphere so much and wanted to stay there where performing is fun and everywhere you turn as well. Along with the concerts that went on I was also exposed to many other performers, including magic shows, painting, graffiti work, drawing, and everything else that is included on the strip in Las Vegas. No matter where you went someone was doing something that they love and really care for. Vegas is such a performing atmosphere and it was really cool to see everyone sharing their love for simple things and letting people buy their work from them and just watch them do their thing.

  24. For my outside hours for Humanities, I watched the movie Les Miserables. I really liked the movie, the way they told the story was really incredible. In the first five minutes of the movie I got hooked, the different views that they portrayed. I didn't think there would be that much singing though.
When I heard that the movie was going to come out in theaters I wanted to go see it but I waited and got it later when it came on DVD. The way the writer for this movie was really really well put together. I have watched the movie three times so far since the day we bought it and it never gets old.
It was nice to see a movie where a lot of characters are put in and trying to defeat something together.
The movie fits into Humanitites by having the music and singing. The movie was a way to show people it's not hard to stand up for yourself and or others to help them out if they really need it.

  25. For my outside hours, I watched the movie Pitch Perfect. I rented it from redbox and my cousins watched it with me. I didnt think i was going to like it at first because I never heard of it but a lot of my friends told me that they would recommend it.
During the movie I realized it was about singing and that is something I love doing. seeing what you can do with your voice in accapella is amazing. I was really enjoying watching the songs they did because they were recent ones that I have heard before which also makes the movie important. I would now recommend this movie to other people and I count it as one of my favorites.
This movie has to do with humanities because of the singing that hey do. A lot of them express themselves through the actions while performing and singing their songs.

  26. For my outside hours i watched the movie Pitch Perfect. I watched the movie with my mom and sister and we had already bought movie. The movie is about a group of accapella singers who are trying to win the national championship. As i was watching this movie, i realized that all these girls are fighting to win something they want so badly and some are just trying something different for the first and are trying to fit in. Also, all the girls are trying to find who they are and are expressing it by singing and dancing. I would recommend watching this movie because its not only funny but just a great movie!
This relates to humanities because people are expressing who they are through music and dance, and they are choosing songs that either relate to them or they really like the song. It gives the audience a new prospective on learning who you are as a person , and that there are many different way to express what you are feeling and who you are as a person. Also, these girls show the audience to find meaning and enjoyment in learning who you are or who you want to become as a person, also to express however your feeling.

  27. For my outside hours I went to see the Twin Cities Ballet Of Minnesota - Cinderella 1944: A Love Story at the Burnsville art performing center.
My mom I went to see it together and we both enjoyed the ballet very much. I have gone to many ballet shows this past year especially, and this was by far my favorite one.
The music and the choreography was so beautiful and everything well put together. I usually am a little bored with the beginning but this time I was very entertained and enjoyed the extra efforts the dances put into the details. The dancers and costumes were lovely! The ballerina that perform the Cinderella was so good, she brought tears to my eyes so many times during the show.

  28. For my second set of hours I went to the 2013 Prior Lake Talent show. The show was hosted by Cody Kohout and Caitlin Wright, they were very funny throughout the show. Also I thought the three judges added a little bit of humor to the show. My favorite talent in the show was the magic show. The respect not only I had but everyone in that entire auditorium for Jordan King was so amazing and I could tell it really made him feel on top of the world.

The first purpose of humanities I chose for this was, helping us live our lives to the fullest. The talent show really express this because people that were taking part in the show were living there lives to the fullest by building up their confidence and going on stage in front of hundreds of people the showcase their talents. They also want to entertain the audience because they find true passion and love in that.

The second purpose of humanities I chose was, finding meaning and enjoyment in our world. I thought this one was pretty obvious to choose because every talent that these students showcased are all something they find meaning and or enjoyment out of. Whether it is singing, juggling, playing piano, or even performing magic tricks they all finds these thing to be enjoying and meaningful to them. Also they aren't only providing entertainment to themselves but also they are entertaining the audience with their talents. Lastly I really enjoyed seeing and learning about some of the great and talented students we had and this was a great experience.

My first set of outside hours was a trip to see the Cherry and the Spoon in Minneapolis. When I was younger, my mom used to take me to see the Cherry and the Spoon and to see all the other sculptures, too. To be honest, I don’t remember ever being there. The last time I went was about 5 years ago, and I don’t remember that either. When I got to the Cherry and the Spoon everything came back to me. It was nice to take a trip down memory lane.
While I was there, I first went into the green house. There weren’t many flowers in bloom but the buds were beginning to show. I also looked at the different types of cacti. That was cool because I went to California over spring break and I saw some of the same types of cacti that were in California, in the green house. Then I walked around outside and looked at the different types of sculptures¸ including the Cherry and the Spoon.
Going to see the Cherry and the Spoon relates to humanities in two ways. One way is art and another is sculpture. In this case both would relate to each other. Art relates to humanities because of all the sculptures, which would be classified as art. Sculpture relates to humanities because the Cherry and the Spoon is a sculpture garden. There are so many different types of sculptures there. One could be the sculpture of the snowman or the sculpture that is made up of mirrors.

  31. For my first set of outside hours I chose to go and see the movie called The Great Gatsby. It was a fantastic movie. Great love story. The movie is basically about Gatsby trying to reunite with his long lost love who lives across the bay area. One purpose of humanities that was expressed in this movie was "Expressing the values of life", take nothing for granted, be happy with what you got because one day it could all vanish at any second.

The second purpose of humanities was discovering who we are as a person. It shows this among the characters throughout the movie.

  32. May, 5th, 2013 I attended the Prior Lake High School Spring Choir Concert. I used to be in choir and remembering it from the last time I was in choir in 10th grade, the spring concert is the biggest concert of the year. There are two shows. I went to the first one at 5:00 P.M. (The last was at 8:00 P.M.) Each play is around 2 hours long, but usually goes a little longer. In between each showing, depending if it ends early or goes later, it can go from a 30 minute to a one hour break. I got a seat in the third row and I was right in the middle so I could hear everything clearly. I sat next to my mom who came with me and another friend. The first song was very loud since it was all the choirs combined, which made it very clear to hear what was being said. There were three all together songs that had all choirs come all together to sing. There were 19 total solos and the rest was each choir on their own. The song after the first with all the choirs was a solo song called Barton Hollow, after the country song. I thought it did a great job getting people’s attention and got everyone to listen and get interested. There wasn’t a disappointment the whole concert. All the songs were good and everyone did a good job. My favorite song and I’d have to say that everyone would agree with the best song was sang by Thomas Richey with his song, “Memphis Lives in Me”. I thought all the songs had lots of variety in them and had some laughs pop up here and there and really overall was a great concert.
A big purpose of humanities that was shown in the concert was literature. It showed a lot of emotions of humans and how we react or act and think and feel. A lot of the songs showed how someone could be feeling, whether be sad or happy. There was also history. Some of the solo’s were older songs that were sang back years ago. An example of this is the song Jackson, sang by Cody Kohout and Sam DuBois. Jackson is an old time song that was first made of by June Charter and sang by her and Johnny Cash.

  33. March 1st, 2013 Brittney and I went to the James J. Hill House. We got a tour of the hole house inside and out. It was beautiful! That house has 8 different levels, and I don' even no how many square feet, but its a lot! One of the rooms had a ceiling made of all real gold. That was in the dinning room where they ate dinner when a bunch of people came over. I'm a very curious person... so I was feeling the wall and all the sudden the wall moved a little bit. I got so excited! I thought I found a secret door! I called Britt over by me and told her to look really close and you could see it. The lady that was giving us a tour told us not to open it. That just makes us want to even more!! So we walked to the other side of the room and Britt found another one! God i thought we were so good at finding them! I laughed. Our tour guide said it was a secret door to the safe. Well there goes our fun. We kept walking round the house, we all headed to the basement and we got to look at the other kitchen then have in the basement where all the maids stayed in the house. Only two maids were allowed in the house to take care of the kids. They had to use the elevator so that James and his wife would not see them in the house. The kids were to stay up stairs until they learned how to act like an adult. Otherwise they played all day till school started. They were home schooled up stairs in a room with two chalk boards that's it. There air to keep the house cool in the summer was hand pumped my a person down in the seller. We got to try pumping it, it was hard! This house seriously was amazing! I love it and want it. -Courtney Olson

    1. Also I forgot to say how this relates to humanities. It relates because It shows you how they lived back then and how they had to use things and they ways they lived In there own home. Its not like It Is today at all! We still use the same tools today but a little more advanced. But the way they lived...definitely not the same as we live today.

  34. Last week I had the chance to go to Washington D.C. with my dad for National Law Enforcement week. During the trip I got the chance to do many exciting things including hearing President Barack Obama speak, tour the capital, see the White House, and visit the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and World War II Monuments. I could easily write a novel on my experiences in D.C., but I am going to pick out one specific place I visited, the Holocast Museum.
The second day in D.C. my dad and I went to the museum. You could walk through the museum by yourself without a tour guide. The museum went in chronilogical order beginning with Hitler's rise to power. The museum had many artifacts and explicit videos. Towards the end of the tour, there was two long walls dedicated to the many people who helped to end Hitler's reign of power and help many Jews. Another part of the tour was a room where you could sit and listen or read people's stories. I found this part of the tour to be extremely sad because I could hear the pain in these people's voices of what they experienced. The final part of the tour is a room filled with shoes of the people who died in concentration camps. This room was very eerie. I can't even begin to put into words the things I felt after going on this tour. It was very emotional for me.
One way this museum relates to humanities is that it provided me with an approach to living in the modern world. It is crazy to think these tragedy's were occuring every day and no one said anything about it or understood why it was happening. After experiencing this, I understood why it is important to treat everyone with respect and not to judge someone.

A second way this museum relates to humanities is brings emotion and expression of emotion to this world. While I was in the museum I saw many people crying. This museum showed truly gruesome images and disturbing information. I really can't begin to describe the eerie feeling each part of the museum brought to me. I felt very emotional about the entire museum.

  35. For my second set of outside hours, I went to see The Great Gatsby. I enjoyed watching the movie very much. I always enjoy watching movies with Leonardo DiCaprio, I think that he is a great actor, and all the rest of the set was fabulous as well. the director of the movie did a very good job with making it feel like it's in the 20's and telling the story just like the book. The only thing I did not like was the music. I enjoyed listening to Lana Del Rey in the end of the movie because it went very well with the time period of the movie, but it ruined the movie for me when they were playing rap songs with flappers dancing to it. Other than that, I really did enjoy the movie a lot.

  36. For my second set of outside hours, I went to my sisters art gallery/showing at the Prior Lake Library. I enjoyed walking around the gallery and looking at my sisters art and also her classmates. While observing some pieces of art, I thought to myself, some of these kids have the potential to be an outstanding artist if they stuck with it. There were a bunch of variety of shapes, sizes, colors, moods, and vocal points in each piece of art work which made them look unique. It was funny to see the little kids show their parents their art work. They were so excited to show them what they have created, even though I was just a bunch of lines and scribbles, but its what they envisioned on their canvas which made the art piece so unique.

  37. For my second set of outside hours, Brittney and I went to the Cathedral down in st. Paul on March 2nd, 2013. This church was one of the biggest and most beautiful churches I've ever seen. The structure of it was huge! We just got to walk around and explore all the levels and read passages from books and on the walls and ceilings. How this relates to humanities is by showing people of all race that they are welcome and can pray and worship there own relations. I'm sure they have plenty more of them all over the world but the one here was very interesting to walk around and be able to look inside at this church we have right here in St. Paul.

  38. For my second set of hours my mom and I went to the Jesus Culture concert at Hosanna church in Lakeville. It was a blast! I got to hear amazing sounds and listen to the wonderful words they put into lyrics. When we got to the church we actually got to see the band before they went on stage and they were really nice and funny. They talk to many people in many different states and they also sing at many churches. They are well known around the United States. They relate to Humanities because they all sing and express their emotions! A lot of people listen to the words of the song and they really can get emotional because it all relates to them personally. Many people cried and many people laughed! It was a great experience for me and I grew closer to God as well!!! I would recommend this to everyone because it's a chance to great emotion and maybe find yourself and your identity!

  39. For the second part of my outside hours, I went to the Talent show with my friend Kenzie. It was amazing to see all of the talents that were in our school. I think a talent show is awesome because we get to see our own peers come out and show what they can do.

The talent show relates to humanities in many ways. It let's people show their inner-self. We are able to see what really describes these people. Like John and Mary when they performed "Ho Hey". You could see how comfortable both Mary and John were up on the stage. You were also able to see who the people really were, like Caitlin and Cody. When they would introduce the next act, you were able to see how genuine and fun both of them were. They worked really well, and were both comfortable on stage talking to an audience. Jenna Lapadula, she showed her inner-self in the best way possible. By performing that "Slam-Poem" was awesome. She was hilarious and had the whole crowd laughing. She had the right amount of seriousness, along with silliness that made her performance one of the more memorable ones.

The quartet would possibly be my favorite. I had no idea that Ryan could sing that well. How all of those boys worked together to create that outstanding music was incredible to me. It really shows off humanities because while they were performing you could really see their inner-musician shine through. How passionate all their faces were when they sang their hardest and how their bodies moved along with it. It was a performance like no other.

The talent show, was a show letting people show off who they really are and what they love.

  40. For my second outside ours I went to the spring talent show. I went with my friends and it was 2 hours long. It was very good, a lot of singing performances. The singers were very good, my favorite was Jori Wiskow and Emily Tremmel. They sang a duet and it was very well done. There were also magic trick show, juggling, drum line, and a skit and they were very entertaining. This was the best talent show I've ever been to. The purpose of humanities this shows is help enjoy the world around us because the songs sang were all peaceful and made me think of world peace and a couple were songs that's weren't from here. Another purpose is help us love our lives to the fullest because I really enjoyed the performances

  41. This past weekend I went to see The Great Gatsby. I usually don't watch movies like The Great Gatsby, but I thought it was a good movie and I would recommend it to others to watch. I felt like all the actors did a great job with their characters and really became that certain person they were acting. Also I thought the directors did a good job making everyone and all the buildings and cars as well as all the things surrounding the people, to really fit the time setting of the 20's. Some people said that some of the music was a bad selection because it was rap and it didn't fit the setting. I thought differently, but that's because I listen to that kind of music and it had a good ring to me. Some purposes of humanities was dance and love. The movie had a lot of dancing and this movie is definitely a love story.

For my second outside project I did is I went to watch The Great Gatsby. It a movie made in 1920’s like when the flappers were popular and the great depression started. I watched this movie because it won a winning award and I read a book about and also watch other movie that is old version and wanted to see how they were similar or different. Other reason I wanted to watch it’s for fashion like what type of designs they put in this movie.

The first purpose of humanities in The Great Gatsby is to express a person’s attitude or value on such things as what is beauty, love, justice, peace, truth, etc. Gatsby’s values were decadence, idealism, excess, and pursuing the American Dream. He had all the money he wanted to make Daisy happy but then she wanted to run away from it. The only woman Gatsby loved was Daisy but she betrayed him by marrying another guy.

The second purpose of humanities in The Great Gatsby is to bring emotion and expressions of emotion to our world. The emotions expressed in this movie were anger, jealousy, love, betrayal, and passion. Gatsby got very angry with Tom, whom Daisy married. Daisy got scared of him and it pushed Gatsby away.

This movie is very powerful and it’s very emotional due to all the conflicts and unresolved relationships. But over all, the movie was great. It’s worth the time to watch it. I would recommend going with someone because you will want to discuss it.

  43. For my second set of outside hours, I went to the Mdewakanton Sioux dance show that they showed for us at the high school. When i heard that it was that day, I wanted to go because I have gone to them all the past years. I went with my friend Jenna because she has humanities as well so we both used them for our outside hours. I thought it was really cool to see all the costumes, and all of the steps were the same. Learning about some of the history that they have is also awesome. It is way cool that some of the kids were really young and they are going to be dancing for a long time. They get to share their Native pride that they have for us. Even the people doing the drums, it tells the story that they dance to. This relates to humanities because it shows the love of their background and culture, and they are able to ecpress themselves through their dancing and actions that they take. They are taking their culture and teaching it to us, giving us an oppertunity to understand why things are important to them.

  44. My second set of outside hours I spent my time going to see The Great Gatsby. While I was watching the movie I thought it seemed familiar. I didn’t fully realize, until I got to the big blue billboard with eyes and glasses on it, that I had seen a different version. I think the new version is better because the movie has some of the actors that I know.
One of the examples of Humanities shown in this movie is dance. In the movie Gatsby throws over the top parties. Everyone is invited to these parties. In the movie that’s exactly what happens, many people show up for Gatsby’s parties. His friend Klipspringer plays piano and everyone dances to his music.
The second example of humanities is that it is film. I chose film because The Great Gatsby was originally a book and then it was made into a movie. I really enjoy films because I am a visual person. I like to see what other people envisioned a book to look like. The Great Gatsby was an awesome movie. I had a lot of fun watching it in the movie theater.

  45. For my second set of hours I went and saw the Mdewakanton Sioux dance show and also the talent show, but for my hours I'm going to talk about the talent show. It was my first one ever and I highly recommend it to younger students that are still able to go and see them. I was exposed to so many different peers that have talents that I didn't even know of. Just watching them all perform I was aware of their passion of what they do, all based on the fact that they wanted to share it with all of us. There was a lot of singing performances but there were also skits, juggling, drumline, a magic show, and others. All the singers were my favorite because I envy those who have voices that they can share with others. They all did very well and I was always entertained for the two hours that it was. One of the acts that really stood out to me was John Schwegman and his sister, mostly because at the beginning of it when John was talking about gay marriage because that's something I myself is very passionate about having a gay brother. His performances always are so well done and that night I could really see his true love for music and singing along with his sister who is going to continue her passion through the high school as she becomes a high schooler next year.

  46. On May 6th, 2013, I participated in the Spring band concert at the high school. I play trumpet for the fourth hour varsity blue band and that was the last of my band concerts. I really enjoyed the selections of music the other bands had to offer and had a very good time.

This experience relates to humanities with the fact that the concert brought emotion and expression of emotion to our world. Music is a fantastic way to express emotion and feeling and I believe that all of the songs that were performed that night did a great job at this.

Another purpose of humanities that was expressed during the band performance is it helped us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. Everyone that went to the concert came to enjoy the different variations of music that the three bands performed. Music is an excellent way to express feelings and emotions to groups of people. I thought that all of the songs that the three bands had performed were well executed and that the audience had clearly enjoyed themselves.

  47. I attended a festival call “Fine Arts”. This is a statewide competition for churches across Minnesota, mainly those who at Assemblies of God churches. It is 6th to 12th grade and you can compete in almost any category imaginable. You can do visual art, music, singing, drama, dance, anything that has relation to fine arts. I watched so many talented people and a lot of not so talented people. The main categories I watched were singing categories, duets, solos, and songwriting. This one girl who was a senior and high school wrote this song, it was honestly the most beautiful song I have ever heard someone my age write. She played it with such conviction and you could really feel the emotion behind the song. She had the entire room captivated, in awe, not one sound was made unless it was by her. The room gave her a well deserved standing ovation and I envied her just a little bit.

This song and girl were the definition of all the purposes of humanities. I am going to say a very prevalent one was providing us with perspective to the world. You see she wrote this song based on the verse Isaiah 43:2. “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown walk through the fires of oppression, you will now be burned up; the flames will not consume you”. She took this verse which was already beautiful and made it into a story, a song. She talked of overcoming things in your life and made this into a challenge. This song she wrote opened up so many doors to me that I did not know were there to begin with. She talked about other problems in the world, other places, and how we have it good here in America. The way she displayed these things to me helped me to see life at a different angle.
The other purpose that was apparent was trying to bring emotion and expression to the world. For me the beauty in the song was amazing and the way she wrote it but like I said earlier I also envied her. She honestly pushed me to become a better song writer. She brought out a rage of jealousy in me that I barely knew was there, and with that jealousy I turned it into ambition. I used it to push myself further and to stride to be superior, not just excellent. Just to hear her sing this song made me and my group of friends ecstatic. We were just silently cheering her on, acting like those old southern church ladies who wave there handkerchiefs at the preacher yelling “PREACH PREACHER” and “HALLILUAH”. An amazing experience to hear this girl’s song and I am so honored to have.

  49. For my second set of hours, I went to the Celebrate Choir Concert right here at the high school. It was on May 5th, 2013. It is my favorite concert of the whole year. I went with my friends Jenna, Micaela and Aaron. I always love to listen to Concert Choir. They are so good! This year they sang “Kokomo” and “Africa.” They sang “Africa” by Toto a capella and it was my favorite performance of the night. They also weren’t directed by Mr. Hassig. I loved watching a lot of my friends up there jamming out and singing to a great song. I also found the soloists to be tremendous.

The first purpose of humanities I would relate this choir concert to is finding meaning and enjoyment in our world. Not only did the people watching the concert enjoy it, but also it appeared that the kids putting on the show thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The soloists and Final Rehearsal seemed to be really happy and proud of their song choices. Music causes many people enjoyment and allows them to find meaning in the world, that’s why it is a great example of humanities.

The second purpose of humanities that I believe the concert related to was how it brought emotion and expression of emotion to our world. The emotions experienced at this show were all across the board. At the end of the concert, many of the seniors began to cry because it was their last big performance of high school. Throughout the concert there was also happiness and laughter. I think that music really causes people to express their emotions in a way that talking doesn’t. The music brought a lot of emotion out of the soloists and allowed them to express each of their unique styles of singing.

    1. For my second humanities hours I went to the Talent Show. The Talent Show was May 12, 2013. It was mixed with singing, skit, magic show, and stand up comedian. The show was amazing. The Talent Show is for anybody at are Prior Lake High School who has talent and wants to show it to a crowd of people. I think the top four that I liked the most was the skit, the boys singing, Jordan King magic show, and the poet/ stand up comedian. The skit won it in the end.

The Talent Show related to humanities is that it helps us live to the fullest. If the people can express themselves in something they love, then other people should be able to do it to. I know it is scary at first, but if they can conquer it so can you. I think that Jordan King is such a great example of this because he has a disability. Jordan King doesn't use his disability as an excuse, he just express himself the way he is. It just teaches you that no matter your life is going whether you have and illness or a disability. You can make something out of it and live to the fullest. It also helps to show that you have meaning in joyment in what they do. When you take your time to prepare for a talent show or for choir it is saying that this really matters to you.

  50. I went to Sound Set for the first time. Sense I just became manager, my other managers have been asking me to hang out. After the MGK concert, they offered me to come with the to see Tech N9ne, and Mac Miller, I thought that was a cool thing to do! So I got picked up by my buddy Steve and we went to Jessica's, they did shots, I didn't want to do shots, cause I was the Sober cab. Then we went their and it was really fun! We rocked out to Atmosphere, Mac Miller, Tech N9ne, Dizzy Wright, Juicy J, and a bunch of other great artists. I just got into rap, so I don't all of the songs. But it was a good time, we all had fun! I got a Tech N9ne Tee shirt that's really cool! ill have to bring it into school to show you.

One of the purposes of humanities is that the rappers up their worked so hard to get where they are, and their just about the same age as anyone else who saw the show. So it showed me that you can do whatever you want, as long as you work for it. It showed me that if I live my life to the fullest, and can do whatever I set my mind to:)

The other part of humanities that I defiantly see is that it express a person’s attitude or value on such things as what is beauty, love, justice, peace, truth, etc. Cause all they talk about on CDs or in concert is whores, drugs, their girlfriend, life, and problems around the world, it varies a lot! And I hear the anger, or the love the rapper tries to express. It shows all sorts of emotions in each song.

  51. I also for Humanities hours I watched Joyful Noise. I watched it June 2, 2013. The movie is about a Choir director that dies and gets handed to someone else instead of the wife. G.G is the wife of the movie and is mad because it didn't get handed down to her. At the same time the choir is on the road to go to Nationals. VI Rose is the new choir director and her daughter go through some tough times, but in the end it all works out. It is also a romantic movie at the same time. I would recommend this movie it is an awesome spiritual and uplifting movie to watch.

The movie provides us approach to live in the modern world. Even when things get tough, you can always work or talk it out with the person you are having troubles with. It also helps us to live better in the modern world to. It makes us more aware of are actions and consequences. Throughout the movie VI Rose is a bit tough on her daughter and the daughter just wants to express herself. Sometimes I think that parents are holding on to their children a little too much. I am not saying it is a bad thing. It’s also nice to know that are parents care about us. I also know that want us to have a good future to.

  52. For my second set of Humanities hours, I visited the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Arts). I went today...by myself. My family is getting ready for my grad party at home so...yeah. Anyway, when at the museum, I viewed some of their featured collections such as: "Two Sides of the Modern: Maverix ReMix", "Strangers in a Strange Land: Photographers' First Impressions", and "Art in the Age of Globalization". It all was quite interesting to me being that I have never been there before and that it was all a new experience for me. Also, I have a MIA gallery hunt booklet as proof of me being there.

This experience relates to humanities by bringing emotion and expression of emotion to our world. By this, I mean that the different artists featured are expressing how they feel about themselves along with this world in their art pieces, be it a statue of a wheelchair or a painting of a goldfish.

Another way this experience relates to humanities is that this helps us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. This means that if you go to a museum and look at the art, you might be able to understand what the artist is trying to depict in their piece. Also, if you understand what the artist is trying to say, then you'll enjoy the work on a much deeper level. Personally, I enjoy that.

  53. For my second set of hours I attended the Mdewakanton Sioux dance concert at the High School. It was a really neat experience. I thought it was really cool how we learned about their values and morals and got to see a lot of their traditional dances performed by elders and their youth. The concert was around an hour and it was one of the most unique experiences of my life. It was also cool to see some familiar faces up on the stage who I had no clue were in the tribe and part of that community.
The first purpose of Humanities that I found through the performance was is that it helps us find meaning and enjoyment in the world. Through learning their morals and values in their presentation before the dances, I was able to learn that they make it very important to be good people and have good character. The second purpose of humanities was that the concert helps us live life to the fullest. By having these good values and morals, we are able to live good and healthy lifestyles which give us the opportunity to do great and special things. The concert was pretty cool and I would recommend it to people in the future.

  55. During Spring Break my mom, grandma, and I went to Chicago while we were there we went to see The Book of Mormon. The play was about two boys (Elder Price and Elder Cunningham) who were sent to a little Uganda village so that they would become Mormon. When they first arrived there were about ten other Mormons that were on the same mission as Elder Price and Cunningham, but they have been on this mission of years. One thing take made converting the villagers was the fact that they were ruled by a very brutal war lord. When the boys started to read the book to the people they were not interested because it did not help or relate to them in any way. Soon Elder Price had a hard time with it being as easy as he though. This is when Elder Cunningham stared to make up story that were inside of the Book of Mormon. Soon the whole village started to believe in the book. My reaction to this play is that it creates a different view on third world countries. The play was that it makes me want to go to many more musicals and plays.

How this play relates to humanities is that it provides us with a perspective view the world. How The Book of Mormon give a different view is because it takes place in a third world country. They have many different problems they are; rape, murder, a lot of death, and ruthless rulers. Another way it related to humanities is that it brings out emotions out in the form of music. How it does this in a musical way is that the actors will sing on a stage by them self and sing how they feel.

  56. For my Humanities hours i went to the Shakopee midawakaten suix community dance. They hadmany different groups that came and danced. My favorite dance was the girls dnaceing in those bellish costumes. the costumes are so colorful and pretty they mens costumes are even cooler and they more look like feathers on the costumes. It was a very amazing to watch becasue i loved how they told us what dance ment to them and why they dance. every kid told us what each of the rules ment and how they live by it. that was amazing. to be in the suix tribe you need to have good character and good judgement and they express thqt through the dancing and the songs that they dance to.
This relates to humanitites because this helps us find a meaning and enjoyment to our world. The suix tribe dacne because they want to show others what they do in their tribe and why they dance. They show it through the morals of being a suix and thats how they dance. they enjoy it so much and dance means alot to them because thats what they do. thats how they express themselves and they enjoy it. It shows us that are watching it a different side to the, then we might have not known because we see dancing in a different way and expressed in a different way but to see this dance and how much they love to do what they do up there puts a different side on things.

  57. For my last Humanities hours i watched the movie Alice in Wonderland. I love the way the movie was put together. Tim Burton really knows how to get the viewer hooked onto the movie. He took it to the next level. Its a twist on the original movie. I have seen the movie over twenty times and i never get sick of it. It captures my attention every second.
The way the graphics are put together is amazing. It makes it seem like its actual and not just put together through a computer animation.
This movie relates to humanities because it helps provide us a perspective to view the world. Instead of creating a movie that has the same old same old with the same graphics and same acting, Tim Burton created something worth wild to see. He made the movie pop and gave it his own little twist. It also gives the viewer a different perspective on how life could be. It makes you question, what if this actually happens.

    FINAL HOURS!!!!(3-6)
For my final hours I went to the midnight premiere of The Great Gatsby. It was so amazing! I went with my best friend Zoe and we both loved it. I would recommend this movie to anybody. My favorite part of the movie was definitely the music! The music was modernized music to fit to today’s style. I heard some critics didn’t really like that and thought it was a bad idea to use that. They thought it’s based in the 20’s so they should keep it based around that period. I think that it the music hit the younger crowd in a very good way though. The director did a very nice job on this movie and should be proud of themselves.
Going to see this movie it relates to humanities because it brings an enjoyment to our lives, just like any films! It is a form of entertainment to us humans. Especially a movie like this where I’m sure half the people that went to that movie read the book. That makes people want to see it even more. People love comparing books to movies. Examples: Hunger Games and also Twilight. Another reason this is based around humanities is because of the music! I can’t get over how much I loved the music. I would go see this movie all over again just so I could listen to the music. I will probably end up buying the soundtrack to this movie. My favorite seen was the scene where Gatsby was throwing all his expensive shirts at Daisy and then she breaks down crying. The music that went with this seen made it so much more emotional. All in all I loved this movie and think everyone should go see it cause who does LOVE Leonardo DiCaprio!!?

Recently I went to Soundset, a all day concert full of music and other things such as b-boy dancers, break dancers, and cars that people modded with a sound system or performance. I spent the day walking around the different stages watching some artists that I was excited to see. I saw performers such as Snoop Dogg, Tech n9ne, Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q, and plenty others. I worked this concert the past 2 years and finally got to go and enjoy the full day of music.
This relates to humanities because it was an event the showed peoples talents and hard work into their art wether it was dancing or creating music. Most of these performers have spent alot of hard work and time to entertain us and make a living off of their passion. Soundset is a place chuck full of humanities!

For my last outside hours I watched the Academy Award Winning movie “Silence of the Lambs”. I choose to watch this movie because it has been a long time since I have last saw it and I remembered that I really liked the movie last time I saw it. I really enjoyed watching the movie even though it is a very bizarre and creepy film. The movie is about a FBI detective, Clarice Starling, who is on a mission to catch a serial killer. During the film she gets advice from a serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in prison to help her find the other serial killer, Buffalo Bill. I can see why this movie an academy Award, it was a very well put together film with some of the best actors/actresses of the 1990’s.
One aspect of humanities that this movie showed was that it provided us with a perspective to view the world. This movie showed me that the world is not always as happy and safe as it seems. There are crazy people in this world just like the serial killers in this movie. I believe this movie does a good job giving the viewer a different perspective of our world.
As an extension of this, it also shows how differently people can perceive the same situation. The two main characters, Dr Hannibal Lecter and Detective Clarice Starling, are both looking at the same situation and individual; by they both provide the audience with a unique point of view. These alternative points of view make the film more interesting and exciting because you are able not only to relate to the good character, but also a bad character in Dr. Lecter.

For my last hour I went to the native pride dance celebration. They had many different dances and talked about there history and explained the importance of everything that they celebrate. My favorite dance had to be the girls and the toddlers that danced because it was really cool to see their style of dance and the toddlers were super cute! All of the dances were really fun to watch not only because it was dancing but it was their way of expressing and explain their culture and lifestyle, and it is really different from others.
This relates to humanities because it shows us a different way to express yourself and where you come from. It can give you a different perspective on what you do and how you really celebrate where you are from. The dances also show how much they love doing what they do and helps you see things in a different light.

For my hours i decided to watch Django Unchained. This is a movie that just came out recently and it is about a German man named Schultz from the speck brothers because the slave named Django knew the people who Schultz was looking for and the movie is about Django helping Schultz find the people he was looking for and in that process Schultz ended up giving Django his freedom and helped Django hind his wife that got sold to a different owner then Django did. I ended up really liking this movie because i usually like the movies Quentin Tarantino ends up doing and i feel like he is one of the only directorates that would make the film as true as it was. this movie relates to humanities because this is how Quentin Tarantino can express him self and he gives people movies that they will love.

for my outside hours i went to a car show a little while ago and it was in the cities and we got to see all the new cars and trucks that the company's were making for next year and future years and it was really cool to see all the different types of cars and trucks they had there and it was also cool to go into the cities and just walk around because i don't really go to the cities a whole lot and you get to see the cool art work and the graffiti which is really cool.

This relates to humanities because even tho they are manufactured by company's some one still had to sit down a think of what car they would want and they needed to draw it and the car is a expression of them self's and there were also lots of older cars that people brought in and those were customized to how that driver wanted them so it is a expression of them selfs.

For my last three hours I went to the Mdewakanton dances held at the high school. Seeing the different culture and values of the Native American group was very intriguing and exciting to watch. Something I noticed throughout the performances was strong level of respect and honor that still exists in the Native’s lifestyle and really makes the viewers consider what is actually important in one’s life.
These dances relate to humanities by the fact that the dancers express themselves as well as their culture through their dances. Native Americans use these dances as ways to express feelings, morals, and also for things such as bringing spirits closer to them.
Going to this performance turned out to be very educational and interesting for me. I learned a lot about the Native lifestyle and who they are in society. I would recommend going to this performance to anyone who enjoys learning the ways of life of other cultures. I also feel that people living in our area especially should take the time to learn more about the Native Americans because they are such a big influence on all of our day-to-day lives.

For my last set of hours i went to Mopars in the Park last Saturday which is a big car show at the fair grounds in farmington. AT the car show they have old cars and trucks and newer style cars like the challenger and charger. I went there with my Dad and Uncle because my Uncle was showing his 1970 Dodge truck. There was many diffrent styles there and the oldest truck that was there was a 1924.
This relates to Humanities by the art that the cars have is amazzing, how they can restore an old car to look nice and shinning but still have the old car syle with in it the way it would have looked back then. Also that everybody that was there has the same hobby as you by going to look at old cars and seeing what a great job, time, and money that they put into there vehicles. There is so many diffrent things you can do when you go to restore a car ranging from the engine, interior, paint, electronics, and many other things to make the vehicles look the best.

  66. For my second hours of humanities my family and I watched the movie Django Unchained. The movie is about a former slave who becomes a bounty hunter. Django only wants to be a bounty hunter is to rescue his wife, who is on a brutal Mississippi plantation. The owner will have the women locked in a box underground for days a time for not obeying the rules. The movie is was intriguing and full of actiod. In the first scene the Django was rescued by the man, Dr. King Schultz who is a German bounty hunter, who help him find his wife.

How this movie relates to humanities is in many ways. The first way is that it gives us a different point of view that a black slave could have gone though. The things that he would have to watch and the respect that some whites would give to him was different then what you would often think of at this time period. Another way that this relates to humanities is making us more aware of our actions and their consequences. One scene in the movie was when a black man was running a from the brutal Mississippi plantation because he could no longer fight. The owner wanted to punish theslave so he was going to set dogs on him. He ask Django if he should and when Django said yes he had to see someone that ould have been him get ripped apart.

  67. For my second set of outside hours I went to go see The Great Gatsby along with a group of friends. We all loved the movie and it was mainly because of Leo. We went out to eat afterwards, worse idea of my life, because I had to go to school the next day. It was my adopted sister’s birthday at midnight so there was no telling her no. Personally I loved the movie, they 100 percent represented Fitzgerald’s book cover to cover. I also loved the music throughout the entire movie it was probably the greatest movie soundtrack I have ever heard, or at least the most unique modern twist to music I have ever heard.
This movie relates to finding meaning and enjoyment in our world, throughout the whole movie you see Jay Gatsby searching for himself in Daisy. He finds everything he ever wants then when Daisy chooses Tom he had everything ripped from him and looses himself. Also I think this relates to living in a modern world, not our modern world, but in theirs. They all live in a high society with money, women, parties, and the high life.

  68. For my last set of humanities hours i chose to watch the Goonies by Steven Spielberg. This movie is about a group of kids that want to go on one last adventure to find One Eyed Willy's treasure. Steven Spielberg did such a good job with this movie because it put the perspective on the kid who wanted to forget about the fact that they are moving and just have fun with his friends and find this one last time and find treasure. It was every kids dream to find treasure and become rich.
This relates to humanities because it helps us to live our lives to the fullest. The group of want to go out on this to find the treasure because in the movie one of the kids say it is our time now. He means that its only about them and that it doesn't matter what anyone else says about it. That is why living your life to the fullest is so important because you may miss out on the times that you thought you had time for. So do as many things that you can before it is to late. I think that is what the major message is in the movie to forget about what is to come enjoy what is happening right now.

  69. For my last three hours I went and saw The Great Gatsby with my girlfriend. It was an overall goo movie, but not as good as I had expected. I felt that there were some parts from the original book that were left out, but other than that it was just the movie I had been expecting and waiting to see.
One purpose of humanities that this relates to would be "makes us more aware of our actions and the consequences." This fulfilled by multiple scenes in the movie. One event would be when Tom is cheating on Daisy and then Daisy runs over his mistress when she is driving Gatsbys car. And another related event is when Gatsby doesn't tell anyone that he wasn't driving so everyone comes after him and he gets killed.
A second purpose of humanities would be "help us find meaning and enjoyment in our world." The Great Gatsby relates to this because Gatsby hasn't really enjoyed himself since he lost Daisy to Tom a while back and the entire book and movie are about his quest to get her back and find meaning in his life again.

  70. So for my second outside hours i went and attended the talent show at the high school. My favorite act was Matt and Maddie in there skit they are in about the dating and mess-ups. They were really funning and everyone was laughing. I am sad to see so much talent leaving this year and i wish i went to a play this year to support my classmates. I didnt realize how much effort and time they put into just amazes me.
The talent show and people in it can relate to humanities because it can be used to identify yourself and and to give joy to others. I know everyone up there is trying to make people enjoy their presentation.
The second part of humanities would be giving us a different point in perspective. I had no idea that some of my classmates had so much skill and talent.Dont judge anyone by the outside. Get to know them you or else you would've never found out. So the bottom line would be give yourself a chance to make a difference. You might be really good at something you have never tried. So push yourself outside the box and explore the world! You would never know what you can accomplish.

  71. For my first set of outside hours I had gone to the celebrate choir concert. I went with my friend Michelle to cheer on a bunch of friends that we had participating. I'm not usually one for sitting at a school event for two and a half hours, but this concert blew me away. I really, really enjoyed hearing all of the songs being performed and seeing the abundance of talent the students at our school possess. I wish I had gone to see more celebrate concerts in the past, but maybe I will come back next year though.

One way this event relates to humanities is by helping us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. All of the students that performed thoroughly enjoy singing and expressing their feelings and emotions through music. It also bring enjoyment to the audience by allowing us all to enjoy the emotions being presented by the music.

Another way this relates to humanities is expressing emotions in the world. Every time one of the solo artists got on stage you could literally feel their emotions coming off of the stage and that just made the music so much more powerful. Same goes with the bigger groups as well.

  72. For my second set of outside hours I went downtown and visited the Mill City Ruins in Minneapolis. I went with my boyfriend Steven and we both loved it. It is sort of like a giant playground for adults, but of course they don't really approve of people jumping around on them. I have been there a few times and I always find something new to look at every time I get there. It's amazing to have something so creative and enjoyable right in our state less than an hour away. It's a great place to just take a walk around and see everything on a nice sunny day.

This relates to humanities by helping us find meaning and enjoyment in our world. The people who created the ruins are very very talented and they enjoyed presenting such an amazing sight for all tourists and citizens. The art gives them a way of expressing their emotions.

Another way this relates to humanities is by helping people express their emotions and values. People go down and visit the Mill City Ruins or even any excellent exhibit we have in the downtown area in our lovely state of Minnesota because of its beauty. Like I said my visits to the exhibit never get old and I will always enjoy taking a walk there. It's a great place to take a walk and clear your mind.

  73. For my humanities hours I went to see the young native pride display that they put on here at the high school. It was an amazing cultural experience for me. It was also an added bonus that some of my friends were dancers in the show. They had put so much detail into the performance it was unreal. The costumes took so much time and effort and I cant believe that someone would take the time out to put them together for such inspiring young men and woman. The time these kids put into keeping up with the old traditions blows me away. Most people see them as an ever changing tribe that is very modern but in reality many of them keep in touch with the old ways.
This relates to humanities because it is all about culture and finding ones identity. These kids defiantly have found there voice deep in the heart of tradition. Keeping the culture alive in tribes such as this one is so important and a great way to keep the family lines open.

  74. I know its a day late....

Yesterday I went to see the Great Gatsby with some friends. We knew it wasn't going to be busy and it was the last night of our senior year.

This movie was great! I didn't really pay attention when we read the book but the previews for this movie looked amazing. my friends had previously seen it except me. I knew some parts from the book but it was a modern day touch on an old classic. One of my favorite things about this movie was 1. the cars and 2. the fact that Gatsby it such a boss. I felt bad when not many people went to Gatsbys funeral because he was so well played and such a good character. I thought the way the movie was put together and how the story stayed the same but the director still made it cool. The movie is way better because it shows the emotions much better. I never realized how crazy the parties were or how crazy some of the characters where. I would totally see this movie again and I will buy it when it comes out.
